We all need to make money, right?
It’s how you go about making money that makes a difference to success or failure.
Blog writing is a great way to make money.
How to make money with blog writing isn’t a get rich quick way to make money, and it’s not for people who are looking for an easy path to wealth, avoiding hard work and intelligent thinking.
Blog writing is a business – if you want it to become your way to make money.
Get serious about Blog Writing and Your Goals
If you want to start writing a blog and make money, you must get serious about what you are doing.
That means believing in yourself and your ideas. Blog writing is about what you have to offer, your big sparkling idea, the gem of a thought that you sat and thought about for a long time.
You worked on the idea, and the more you thought it through, the more you knew that it’s a solid idea that will appeal to millions of other people out there on the internet. You have to know this, and to feel it. You don’t want to grab an idea and just play with it, then let it fizzle away overnight.
Your idea will be with you for a long time. An idea that solves a problem for other people is what you should be focused on. This is what causes readers to stop and read, digest and think about what you have to say. That builds trust.
Reasons to Blog as a Business
Blog writing is great way to build and reach an audience for the average person. It’s a low cost start and future running costs are low.
The only time that your costs increase is when you need better software to deal with all the traffic visiting your blog. So, costs always stay relevant to income.
Blogging is a Low-Risk Venture
A shop on the high-street is a high cost, high risk start to life in business.
The risks are increasing for shop owners as property prices shoot through the roof, the cost of square metre space becomes too high, and statistics show us that it takes a good five years to know that you are a solidly running shop.
Most businesses don’t last that long, one or two years and they fold and do their best to cut their losses.
A blog doesn’t fold, and financing isn’t the problem with keeping the business going. The blog owner needs to work hard, write a lot, know about their subject and research and learn as much as they can.
Making money at writing a blog requires a long term commitment to your idea. That comes with knowing that you are right about it. You won’t quit on a good idea, but you will, sometimes, feel like you need a day off. Business is a demanding, and achieving something really special takes a lot of work and patience.
If you write a post each day, you are on the way to building a fantastic blog. But, there’s more to it than that.
Your Blog Writing Abilities
Your writing style, how you express yourself, and how much solid information you include in your blog writing will determine if you get readers or bouncers.
A “bounce” is a site visitor who lands on your blog pages and then leaves within seconds. Google registers this and if it happens all of the time Google considers it a sign that your blog is not interesting to visitors.
These days search engines can determine the level of your writing. So, learning and practising you art is imperative to your success, which in turn leads to you making money with your blog writing.
Good writing is the basis of your communicating with your traffic, your visitors. People are out there, they are looking for your articles and posts on exactly the subject that you write. You just need to commit to getting better and better at writing about it.
I don’t really believe that many bloggers take much time to learn about good writing. I don’t mean schoolish writing ideas, like grammar etc.
I mean creative non-fiction, article writing and fiction techniques. These three things are perfect sources of information to educate yourself on how to write engaging posts for your blog.
When you start a blog it’s important to view it as business venture. This gives you a better perspective on what you are really doing. Too many bloggers begin by writing, and only thinking about getting more and more posts out there for people to read.
Your idea, the concept behind why you write on a particular topic will give you plenty of fodder to break it down into subjects.
You can categorise a topic into different subjects by thinking about how it relates to real life issues.
If you write about business, you should drill down and ask yourself which area of business is most interesting. Are your readers beginners? Are they already running a business and you want to advise them on how to deal with the day-to-day aspects of running their type of business?
My blog is about creativity. I know that creativity is a powerful way of approaching life, a thought process that opens up to new ideas instead of simply accepting the tried and tested all of the time.
You can imagine that with a topic such as creativity, I could venture off into many different angles of thought about writing a blog post. But I am keeping it tightly wound around the circle of thought of writing, blogging and problem solving with creative thinking. I avoid writing about art in general, but nail it down to the occasional post on photography, something I love to do.
When you investigate your idea, get serious about it, you will discover that all things are connected. That’s how you find an angle on your writing.
There’s not a legitimate reason to find a niche. If you like, you can think of your way of looking at a problem and offering a solution as a niche. But most bloggers who claim to have a niche service or product, don’t. They have an angle from which they write about it.
Shopkeepers have a tough time of it these days. they are up against the ever increasing flow of business, customers to the web. People don’t worry about purchasing on the internet anymore, so they browse, look for the product or services that they need and buy while sitting in their undies, drinking morning coffee.
Bloggers are a powerful lot. Good bloggers, successful bloggers know this is a fact.
As a blogger you are in the position to engage potential customers, the people who search for your product or your writing. They are looking for confirmation that what they are thinking, about a product, is right. They want a little shove in the right direction to pull out their credit card and pay for the goods.
Your job, if you want to make money, is to build enough content so that search engines can find you. Make sure that the content is interesting, engaging and factually correct, then learn how to write killer calls to Action to convert your readers into paying customers.
Writing as often as possible is the best way. many successful bloggers write two to three posts a week. That’s fine, it does the job of ensuring quality content on a regular basis.
As you develop your blog, your writing abilities, you will come up with ways to implement better ideas. You get a feel for what readers like through feed back.
Once you begin to see that you’ve built some content. You can focus more on how you make income. This is done by advertising. Google Ads are one way to populate your blog with adverts that are relevant to your subjects. It’s important that advertisements on your blog are of interest to your readers.
Amazon Associates is another way to start advertising. That way you choose which products you advertise on your blog, you have better control over where the ad appears and how big or small it is.
There is a lot of chatter about which works better, text advertising or banner adverts. I think text links that are sitting in your posts in a strategically positioned point, are effective. I also find that readers will click through on a banner ad so long as it is simple and factual – not click bait looking, or flashy.
When you think about the topic of your blog, investigate it a while before committing. You want to know that it’s really in your heart to continue writing about it, making videos on it, and still feel good about doing it in 1,2,3, years time.
The advertising that you put on your blog is called Affiliate Adverts/marketing. This is a legitimate way to make money. It’s no different than selling a product on behalf of a company and taking a commission that the company pays you.
The people who buy the products that you advertise, do so because they want to, they need the product. They will buy it someplace else if you don’t convince them through your writing that to buy now, and through you, is the best option.
Selling makes the world go round and it is the basis if all economies. If people don’t search out customers and sell to them, I’m certain that there will be a lot of buyers who are frustrated at how difficult it is to find what they want.
If the products you offer are close to your heart and beliefs, then you will be highly motivated to offer them on your blog.
Learn How to improve your Abilities
You will only know that your ideas are good if you live with them for a while. You need to commit to blogging. Then write posts and create content. Think deeply about your blog and how to make money with it at some point in the near future. Many successful bloggers start to make income after three to five months. This is because they are razor sharp with their work. They don’t let-up, or take long breaks away from the business of blogging.
Other bloggers have to go through a steep learning curve and first begin to make an income after a year or two.
You can only ever know if it will finally create an income when you actually make your fist few dollars. We can’t predict the future. And, more importantly, other people can’t tell you jot about whether you will be successful or not.
The money comes through hard work. It’s up to you to know that your ideas about topic and writing skills, video making etc are up to scratch – because if they are, and you work at it, stick it out, you will make money.
