Imagine if you could write blog posts that attracted streams of new readers to your blog each and every day.
It would cause your motivation to scale up to dizzy heights, and give you a feeling that it’s all really, really possible to influence what happens in your blogging business..
Bloggers have to work hard to get readers. Those that do work hard, experience success, again and again.
What they do, takes practice. You must patiently work at your blogging craft, and then you will see the results that you have aimed at.
The hard work that successful bloggers do is mostly done deep down in the writing mind. The things they write about appeal to readers, the topics they choose to write about attract people because the subject matter offers a promise to solve a problem.
All this is written from the heart and with passion for the subject.
That passion comes through doing proper research and knowing what you are talking about. If you learn about your readers needs, you will attract streams of readers who want to read your blog posts.
“How to” blog posts offer immediate gateways for readers who need to solve their problems; everyday, millions of readers search the internet for a solution, a good idea, a way to create changes in their lives. Most people are fed up with the hum-drum of everyday life and they are ready to listen when you can show them a way out of the dark and heavy waters that seem to weigh them down.
Amazingly, many bloggers have to deal with hardly any, or even no readers on their blog posts because when they wrote it, they weren’t much interested in the subject; they just thought it was subject that they should write about, or they were looking for a filler to take up space on their blog.
There are hundreds of thousands of dud blogs out in the internet sphere that just float. They are doing nothing.
The owners are doing nothing to them, they lose interest and let the blog that was once their dream way of creating an income disappear into the internet.
Those bloggers lost track of what is important about being successful in blogging for a living – writing posts that help people to do something better.
Solving people’s problems with damned good advice that is actionable.
When you start a new blog post, imagine for now that you’ve got a good topic, or subject that revolves around your main topic. You begin to write, ideas pop up in your head, you do a little research, you keep writing. But, the whole time this is happening you should be working on what to call your blog post.
Headlines and Titles on Blog Posts
Your headline, the title of the post is the first stop for a reader. It’s the only chance you have of catching their attention for a short moment, and making them think.
Thinking about headlines is hard to do if you haven’t yet written your post.
There are several good starts for your thinking with headlines.
“How to…” Could fit your beginning about a post that shows a person how to build something, solve a problem, fill out a complicated form etc.
“Guess what happened on the way to…” “You will never Guess what these people did after…” ” This Guy made Millions with this idea…” These are all “click-bait” and should be avoided.
Their use to you is to help you think in the direction of how to create a great headline that will cause a person to click the link, because they feel compelled to do so.
Click bait works. But, it is mostly overstating the real use of the article or blog post.
Most serious bloggers and writers avoid using them these days, cause too many of them and Google will probably penalize your website, and dump it into blogging darkness.
If you write a headline and then write a post based around that headline, it might turn out to be difficult for you.
A great headline in a post will get the stream of blog readers clicking in the title and heading towards your blog.
A lot of good bloggers write a headline first, then start the body of the post.
Doing that means that you have to follow a tight line of thought that can be restricting to your imagination and any passion you have for the subject.
I prefer to write what I want to write, and then half way through or at the end, I’ll start to work on the title. It’s up to you because it’s a personal thing that is linked to our way of thinking and working.
I have a few ideas about the title at the start, but I just don’t commit to anything until the post is completely written.
I’m also aware that for me, the idea of a title is working away in the background while I write. I can feel it bubbling on the back-burner the whole time.
If you are stuck for an idea, search for a similar title to what you’re thinking about and sift through the good ones for inspiration.
Put Your Heart into the writing – all of the Time
Passion is a driving force. I`m sure you’ve experienced those powerful feelings of passion drive through your soul in a way that leaves you feeling fantastic. And then, it disappeared into the ether – where did it go to?
It doesn’t matter what you are writing about, if it’s going to end up on your blog, then do it with passion and heart.
If you do anything with a passion it will eventually show up in the writing. Something special happens each time we write with a full steam ahead attitude, a heart full of want.
If you continue to write like that, with heart, you will make it a habit. You and your readers will begin to see the little bit of magic in your blog posts that other writers just don’t hit. Human soul in anything is top quality.
At first, it’s tempting to approach a blog post with an attitude of, “it’s just some work to be done”, and then write away with a half hearted, hoping to finish soon attitude.
Blogging is not a silly pastime, or a waste of time at the weekends. It’s a wonderful way to exercise the mind, to explore and to connect with people who normally you would never know about or hear from.
When you write something, and it resonates with people out there in the world, it’s a magnificent feeling. You actually effected a person to move and comment back to you. They want to converse with you about the subject that you chose to write about. It’s a great feeling – each and every time.
The bottom line is that to be able to find the heart in your writing, you have to keep writing through, never give up on a post that you know is worth publishing. Just the act of struggling through the difficult parts is like a heavy work out in a the gym, you do it, and you’ll build writing muscles.
When you are writing a post, stick to the subject or topic.
That means show some discipline in your efforts to tell your story. You can’t write about everything that occurs to you in one post, so follow a hard line of thought that takes you from your proposition (The main point you make), to the middle points that confirm why your points are good ideas, workable ideas, to the end where you will confirm your proposition or main point that you stated at the beginning.
Learning to write great blog posts is the same as learning to write articles, essays, and stories.
So, to get better at writing, read books about writing from authors who know what they are on about.
Much of the information about content writing is an attempt at reinventing writing as we already know it. Tell stories, be good at presenting your ideas with clarity and make it interesting enough for the reader to stick with it and read to the end.
A Blog post should be long enough to to tell the story and to clearly explain a solution.
Sentence length should be a mixture of short and concise, followed by a sentence or two that has a main clause followed by a couple of comma separated clauses.
Long, short, short, long.
Only writing in short sharp sentences all the way through leads to a beating sound in the mind that creates utter boredom for the reader. Your sentences create “beats” and pauses that a reader notes automatically.
Offer a solution – a key solution, and then offer alternatives that might be useful
When you are drawing to the end of your post, become more concrete with your ideas.
Be shorter in explaining it, make up your mind about how you want to present it to clearly show the reader.
Don’t leave the reader in any doubt about why they need your solution, do leave them with a certainty that they can’t do without it.
Close with a great call to action; be brave and ask them to read another article of yours, or to sign up for your email list. If you have a product to sell, tell them about and how it connects to everything they have just been reading.
Readers who come to blog, stay and read are new friends who will develop a liking for your style, the way you get your point across appeals to them. That’s showing trust towards you, give that trust back, don’t be shy and show them all you have to offer.
